Born in 1979 in Bandung, in the west part of Java, Willy Setiawan is a graduate of The Bandung Hotel and Tourism Institute.

Food lover from early age, he was studying Business Hospitality while working as a cook at Baltika Hotel Bandung where he learnt the best about Indonesian food, art cutting and saucing.

In October 1999, he entered in the new Holiday Inn hotel in Batam. The proximity of this Island with Singapore makes it as the first leisure destination for Expat and Singaporean guests; a great experience for his development. Focusing on International, Chinese and Japanese cuisines (teppanyaki), Chef Willy quickly found his own way of cooking and distinguished himself.

From 2003 to 2005, he pursued his carrier in Center Java, in Grand Candi, an Indonesian five-star hotel where he shaped his cooking skills manly in Indonesian food.

On his way to take new challenges, he flew overseas, in Europe and sign up with The Vere The Belfry as a Demi Chef the Partie. Over there, he discovered new essential aspect of hospitality. As a demi chef the partie and responsible for banqueting , he took the opportunity to cook for the English Premier League Team Wigan Athletic FC and Newcastle United FC during the pre-match meal, to add a string on his bow.

After a fulfilled year in Europe, in 2006 he came back to Indonesia with the strong willing to implement his skills and knowhow, then he happily joined Accor as Chef de Partie at Novotel Semarang. Quickly he grew into sous Chef and Executive sous Chef, responsible of all hotel kitchen and all the culinary department.

Recently, based on his management skills and knowledge Chef Willy became the new Executive Chef of the Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, handling the 3 Kitchens department.

Chef Willy tell us about his cooking vision:

“Suggest, taste and delight in… “

My inspiration comes from my willing to expose and enhance the food by keeping the traditional flavor and improving the plating. Nowadays, I manage 3 kitchen restaurants, all different, from the Husk Restaurant where we mainly serve Indonesian food, the Capris beachfront restaurant presenting Mediterranean meals and our Teppanyaki Restaurant.
Among the few Teppanyaki restautants in Bali, our restaurant offers an authentic atmosphere featuring rich colors and a modern design. The Teppanyaki Restaurant boasts exquisite fresh seafood, best meats and exclusive wines for a memorable moment. Inspired by the seasons in Japan, we offer the privilege to enjoy our set menus : Haru (Spring), Natsu (summer), Aki (autumn) and Fuyu (winter)

A It’s a hard cooking method, the Chef can’t afford to make any mistake, standing up in front of the guest, he should have an amazing instinct to adapt the seasoning to the guest expectation in only one shot and we like to call it the Art of cooking. “

The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali staging beach clean-up and giving donation to the Kuta Sea Turtle Conservation.

Celebrating Accor’s Earth Guest Day which is representing the climax of all the sustainable development actions carried out by worldwide employees under the Accor Group, The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali held its annual beach clean-up program at the beach area in-front of the resort on Friday, 22nd April 2011 at 8 am.

More than two hundreds participants eagerly joined the management and hotel team, working side by side to clean the beach. Amongst the invitees there are more than a hundred school students and teachers from SD 1 Seminyak and SD 1 Kerobokan; the members of Bali Tourism Media Association and the representatives of Kuta Sea Turtle Conservation and Pro Fauna Indonesia.

Recently The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali launched its new mascot a soft stuffed animal toy in sea turtle form called Penyu, which means sea turtle in Indonesian. What made this year’s Earth Guest Day more special was that on the same day after the beach clean-up program, Mr. Stephane BRYER and Bapak I Gusti Ngurah Tresna signed an agreement between the hotel and Kuta Sea Turtle Conservation. The hotel has committed to donate all profit gained from the selling of the Penyu toy to the foundation to support this endangered animal.

Stephane Bryer, General Manager of The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, “It was on June 2008 when we first found around eighty turtle eggs buried in the sand in-front of the hotel and we contacted the Kuta Conservation to secure and collect them. Then on August that year we released the baby turtles back to the nature. Knowing that only 1 out of 1,000 eggs hatched will survive and that Seminyak beach is one of the nesting areas of sea turtles, the least we can do is to keep the beach clean and safe for them to lay eggs. And hopefully by putting aside a little fund for the conservation, we hope that we can support the preservation effort and to urge others to do the same.”

The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali staging blood donation in commemorate to the World Red Cross Day on 8 May 2011

The World Red Cross Day is celebrated every year on May 8. It has become an important day in the history of mankind because of the role played by the Red Cross in saving lives around the world. Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross is also celebrating his birthday on the same date.

The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali has a long partnership history with the Red Cross, especially the Indonesian Red Cross (IRC). On June 2008 the hotel along with sister hotels of Accor Bali have donated US$ 10,200 for the devastating earthquake victim in Sichuan – China through the foundation. This partnership was then become stronger as The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali has added blood donation into its permanent charity program. Last year assisted by IRC the hotel has conducted it twice; on 29th April 2010 and the last one was on 14th August 2010 in conjunction to the celebration of Indonesian Independence Day.

This year, taking the moment of the World Red Cross Day and bringing up the line ‘A Drop of Blood will Help Life’, once again the hotel held the blood donation to help the IRC replenish its stocks. Encouraging the whole Royal Seminyak Bali team to donate their blood, the hotel also invited sister hotels in Bali. The event took place in the hotel premises, at the pre-function Puri Tanjung Sari Ballroom on Wednesday, 18th May 2011 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Ferushita Dewi, Human Resources Manager of The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, “We have seen many catastrophes happened lately and it made us realize the value of a bag of blood. Every single drop can prolong life and when it is needed, we would do anything to get it for those who are fighting for their life. Been working hand on hand with the IRC and knowing the fact of the crucial value of blood, this regular blood donation is the least that we can do to support the Red Cross in saving humankind. A drop of blood does help life.”

The next blood donation will be held on September in commemorate to the Indonesian Red Cross day on 17th September.
